Nitrous oxide, commonly known as “laughing gas,” is a safe and effective form of mild sedation frequently used in pediatric dentistry and oral surgery to help patients feel relaxed and comfortable during treatment. It is administered through a small nose mask and works quickly to reduce anxiety, improve cooperation, and create a more positive dental experience while allowing the patient to remain awake and responsive. The effects wear off rapidly once the gas is stopped, enabling most patients to return to normal activities shortly after their appointment.
